Description: Thorntonian Newspaper staff members are expected to be actively involved in the following: idea and story development, research, interviewing, information gathering, copy writing, advertising functions, editing, photography, and layout. As the voice of TFN, The Thorntonian, can be a powerful tool for student expression. Members are expected to take their role seriously and perform them accordingly to professional journalistic guidelines.
Procedure for Joining: Although Advanced Journalism is an elective that is traditionally for juniors and seniors because of the time commitment and the rigor of writing and research, sophomores can add it as an elective as long as they have an A or B in English 1 at the end of freshmen year and their teacher recommends them for the class. If you are interested in joining, talk to your current English teacher for a recommendation and your counselor.
Time Commitment: The staff meets during scheduled class time.
Activity Time Period: All year
