PBIS and SEL
PBIS
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students to achieve social, emotional and academic success.
The mission of the PBIS Program is to develop and sustain both an emotionally and physically safe school environment by focusing on the following:
- Cultivating strong relationships between the staff and students
- Nurturing relationships with parents and the community
- Fostering student and parent participation in the educational process
- Monitor, intervene, and enforce the attendance policies and behavioral expectations.
Engaging in the mission of the PBIS program will result in an emotionally as well as cognitively challenging and stimulating school environment for students.
Social Emotional Learning
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is scheduled into the curriculum for all programs. SEL is a framework that refers to the acquisition of skills needed to recognize and manage emotions, develop care and concern for others, make responsible decisions, establish and maintain positive relationships, and handle interpersonal situations effectively. SEL skills support schools and families in working together to promote student’s emotional, academic and social success.
Guidance
The basic philosophy of the guidance department is predicated on each student being assisted in his/her area of need, in order for that student to reach his/her potential. The guidance program is designed to help students throughout high school in the areas of goal setting, planning, self-awareness, career exploration and decision-making. The guidance counselor has two primary functions; to encourage and assist students in planning educational programs in keeping with student skills, motivation and interests and to help students with post-high school planning.
