Filing Period for School Board Candidates Announced

Election nomination petitions for the Thornton Fractional Township District 215 Board of Education will be available at the district office at 1601 Wentworth Avenue Calumet City, IL 60409 beginning September 23, 2014. Forms may be picked up during normal business hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Forms are also available at http://www.elections.il.gov/Downloads/ElectionInformation/PDF/2015CanGuide.pdf
The first date petitions may be circulated is September 23, 2014. The filing period for petitions is December 15 - 22, 2014. New starting this year, nominating petitions must be filed with the county clerk. Candidates may want to contact the county clerk's office to see if there are locations other than the main downtown Chicago location (at the Daley Center) where they can file their nomination papers.
Four seats on the district's seven-member board will be filled at the April 7, 2015 school board election. Three positions are for a four-year term expiring in April 2019 and one position will be a two-year term (completing an unexpired term) which will expire in April 2017.
On the date of election, candidates must be 18 years old, a registered voter, a resident of the State of Illinois and the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election.
